Discover Chef Leu's House

If you’ve ever driven along 3761 Shelburne Rd, Shelburne, VT 05482, United States, you’ve probably noticed Chef Leu's House sitting comfortably among the local favorites. I first stopped in on a chilly Vermont evening after a friend insisted it was the place for authentic Chinese cuisine in the area. After several visits since then-both dine-in and takeout-I can confidently say it’s more than just a convenient dinner spot; it’s a cornerstone of the Shelburne food scene.

Walking through the doors, the atmosphere feels relaxed and welcoming. It’s not flashy or overdesigned. Instead, it leans into what really matters: generous portions, balanced flavors, and a menu that reflects traditional Chinese cooking with American-Chinese classics. The dining room is spacious, making it ideal for family dinners, casual date nights, or even a quick solo meal at the end of a long workday.

The menu is extensive, covering everything from General Tso’s chicken and sesame beef to vegetable lo mein and house special fried rice. During my first visit, I ordered the hot and sour soup, followed by the shrimp with garlic sauce. The soup arrived steaming, layered with tofu, mushrooms, bamboo shoots, and just the right tang of vinegar and pepper. According to culinary studies from organizations like the National Restaurant Association, diners consistently rank flavor balance and freshness as top priorities when choosing a restaurant. That balance is something this kitchen clearly understands. The shrimp were tender, not rubbery, and the sauce had depth without overwhelming heat.

On another visit, I tried the house special lo mein and a side of crab rangoons. The noodles were stir-fried in a wok at high heat, a technique known as wok hei, which gives dishes that subtle smoky aroma. It’s a hallmark of proper Cantonese-style cooking, and while not every dish leans strictly traditional, the technique shows care and experience behind the scenes. Portions are large enough that I usually leave with leftovers, which makes the value hard to beat compared to other nearby locations in Chittenden County.

What stands out in many local reviews is consistency. Friends who live nearby often order takeout during busy weeknights, and they’ve told me the food quality remains steady even during peak hours. In my experience, pickup times are accurate, and orders are packed carefully to prevent spills. That level of operational detail may sound small, but it builds trust over time.

From a nutritional standpoint, Chinese-American cuisine often gets a reputation for being heavy. However, the menu offers lighter steamed options with sauce on the side, as well as vegetable-forward dishes like broccoli with garlic sauce or tofu specialties. If you’re mindful about sodium or portion size, you can easily customize your meal. The staff has always been accommodating when I’ve requested adjustments, which speaks to their customer-first approach.

Shelburne itself is known for its scenic charm and proximity to Lake Champlain, and having a dependable restaurant like this along Shelburne Road adds to the appeal. While I’m not privy to every behind-the-scenes detail, the restaurant has maintained a solid local presence for years, which in the restaurant industry is no small feat. The Bureau of Labor Statistics notes that many independent restaurants close within the first few years, so longevity alone suggests strong management and loyal clientele.

If there’s any limitation, it’s that the décor feels traditional rather than modern, and on very busy nights, you might wait a bit longer for a table. Still, the steady stream of returning customers says more than any marketing ever could.

Whether you’re craving comforting fried rice, savory noodle dishes, or a full spread of appetizers to share, this spot delivers reliable flavors, fair pricing, and a menu broad enough to satisfy a group with different tastes. In a region filled with dining options, that kind of dependable experience is exactly what keeps people coming back.

  • A+++ This is our go to dine in Chinese restaurant in the area. We love the general tso’s chicken especially!! Another steal is the chirashi bowl which I’ve ordered from this restaurant on and off for years (when in area). Spider roll is great —rainbow roll—. The tso’s, especially fresh when dining in, is actually my favorite of any place I’ve ever been. The portions our large and we typically split two entrees between 2 adults and 2 young children. Oftentimes we add some sushi for some surf and turf. Our family goes at least once a month. I’ve also ordered delivery 2 or 3 times in just a couple of months. So I guess this is the restaurant we’ve ate at the most since being in area! With young children, we love the accepting atmosphere. Our server, I believe his name is Ronnie, is so accommodating and friendly. We’ll probably eat here for thanksgiving— lol—he said they are open but to get our order in early.

  • Our group of five shared a full spread here, and nearly every dish exceeded expectations. The pupu platter was crispy and fresh, the Mongolian beef perfectly balanced, and both the General Tso’s and sesame chicken had that ideal crisp-tender texture. The crispy shrimp were a standout. Portions were generous, plating thoughtful, and the sushi surprisingly impressive for a non-sushi-focused establishment. The Buddha’s Delight was the one dish that divided the table, but the kitchen offered to add heat and repackage it, and that version was fantastic. You can tell the team takes real pride in their food. Service, thanks largely to Ronnie and a very fast kitchen, was exceptional. Warm, funny, intuitive, and genuinely invested in giving us a great experience. BYOB currently, plenty of dine-in seating, and a clear commitment to making guests happy. A gem.

  • Popped in with a large group of people (including two toddlers) and couldn’t be happier with everything!!! Ronny was great, the food was fast and really great, and the ambiance was warm and welcoming. The food was honestly top notch. It was exactly what we needed for a cold evening outside. I recommend dining in for quick and delicious food, fast service, and a great experience!

  • Always great food at Chef Leu’s House! Ordered the Singapore Noodles and they accommodated my request for it to be not too spicy. The General Tso’s Chicken and Pork Fried Rice were delicious too! Ronnie and staff are always welcoming and friendly!

  • I almost always have my Christmas Day birthday in a Chinese restaurant. I traditionally treat 20-30 of my Jewish friends to lunch. This year, I chose to have the luncheon at Chef Leu’s House in Shelburne. New owner Ron worked with me to come up with a menu—appetizers and several buffet main courses that satisfied and delighted all my friends. Ron was a terrific host, and even made a little video of the event! Highly recommend. Note to plan well in advance for a large event. Restaurant is BYOB. Take out or call ahead for dine in.

  • The most pleasant experience i’ve had at a restaurant in this part of Vermont. Chef Leus is so cozy and the food was delicious. We’ve ordered take out a few times in the past, but highly suggest going in and sitting down. It was so nice! We got noodles and sushi (both really good). The wonton soup is my go to! Best wonton soup in the area. The service was super welcoming and we’re excited to come back for sure!
